Apollo Uptown Hall 50 Years After MLK: A Dream Deferred

As a continuation of WNYC’s long-standing Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend celebration and a part of Carnegie Hall’s Sixties Project, WNYC and the Apollo are proud to unite again to present Apollo Uptown Hall: 50 Years After MLK– A Dream Deferred an amalgamation of both series.

The longstanding annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration features musical performances and brings together audiences from Harlem and around the city with scholars, community leaders, and activists to engage in conversations that examine the future of social justice movements as we traverse the current social and political climate. They include:

• Imam Talib Abdur-Rashid, Mosque of the Islamic Brotherhood
• Taylor Branch, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and MLK biographer
• Rosa Clemente, activist, scholar, and 2008 Vice Presidential candidate (Green Party)
• Pandit Dasa, Author and Weelbeing expert
• Patrisse Khan-Cullors, Co-Founder, Black Lives Matter
• Minister Kirsten John Foy – Minister, President of the Brooklyn Chapter of the National Action Network
• Dr. Clarence Jones, civil rights leader and former attorney and advisor to Dr. King
• Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum, Activist and spiritual leader of Congregation Beit Simchat Torah
• Linda Sarsour, Co-Founder, Women’s March
• Jeanne Theoharis, Scholar and Professor of Political Science at Brooklyn College

This is a free event with a ticket required. Please arrive early. Free tickets are also available at the Apollo Theater box office. You must print out your email confirmation and bring it with you the afternoon of the event. Seating is by general admission and registration does not guarantee space. Doors open at 2PM. Tickets not picked up from the box office by 2:30pm on the day of the event will be released to patrons in the standby line.

This event will be recorded for broadcast and theater entry will be considered consent to be included in the recording.
