Upcoming Exhibitions at Studio Museum Harlem
Beginning November 12th through March6,2016, three new exhibits are coming to Studio Museum Harlem. TheMuseum will present Constellation, a compilation of artwork from 26 artist of African descent. Eight of the artist scheduled to be on display emerged in the mid-to late 20th century and are apart of Studio Museums permanent collection. The additional 18 are new artist whom will be featured at the studio for the first time. The collection is a gathering of intergenerational artwork focused on economy, African diasporic history, politics, race and culture.
Black: Color, Material, Concept is another exhibit set to debut in Studio Museum this fall. The collection features two- dozen paintings, sculptures, along with prints from modern and contemporary artist whom explore the possibilities of “black”, as well as its meaning based on choice of media and imagery.
In Studio Museums Focus series (single-work exhibitions), Danielle Deen gets inspiration from a red Nike sneaker released in 2003 marketed as “True Red”. In a three-minute hand drawn digital animation, the red sneaker evolves into various forms- a bat, a castle, and an oozing red substance.
The Studio Museum presents Target Free Sundays on November 15, 2015 from 1:00pm-6:00 pm, visitors will get the opportunity to visit working studios of the 2015-2016 artist in residence. During this time visitors will be able to engage with artist, discuss their work, techniques, processes, and inspiration.
