Riffs on Race, Love, and War: The Musical sounds a clarion call for unity, compassion, and transcendence. Part social commentary, part African American-Barbadian family history, Riffs on Race, Love, and War is a powerful 90-minute play blending spoken-word poetry, Jazz, Rock, and Gospel to inspire a future of freedom, justice, and equality. Riffs features Tulani Kinardand Mumia Abu-Jamal, speaking from the stage for the first time ever in a special voice-over.Mumia Abu-Jamal is a prolific author, journalist, social commentator, and an American prisoner wrongly convicted for the 1981 murder of a police officer. Mumia did not receive a fair trial by a jury of his peers. Originally sentenced to death in 1982, in 2012 the ruling was later commuted to life imprisonment without parole. The New York Times previously described him as “perhaps the world’s best known death-row inmate.”
